Rabies is a deadly, but preventable, disease that is spread to humans and other animals mainly from the bites of certain infected animals (for example, bats). During the last century, the number of human deaths in the United States that are attributable to rabies has declined from at least 100 every year to 1 or 2 every year. But did you know that there are still countries where rabies is endemic? Or that, when traveling to these countries, it may be advisable to first talk with your healthcare provider or receive a rabies vaccine?
